Childcare Funding & Financial Support

Simple information about the government help that may be available towards your childcare costs. Eligibility depends on your individual circumstances.

What support is available?

Three ways help with childcare costs may be available

Funded Childcare

Eligible families can receive government-funded childcare hours for children from 9 months up to 4 years.

Tax-Free Childcare

For every £8 you pay into a Tax-Free Childcare account, the government adds £2 towards approved childcare costs.

Other Support

Depending on your circumstances, you may also get help through Universal Credit, student support or other schemes.

Funding Options in Detail

Eligible working families in England may receive up to 30 hours of funded childcare per week for children aged 9 months to 4 years, usually for 38 weeks of the year.

  • Apply through the government childcare service.
  • If eligible, you get an 11-digit code to give your childcare provider.
  • Reconfirm eligibility every 3 months through your account.
