Oral Health
Promoting oral health is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage — and part of everyday learning here.
Why Oral Health Matters
Tooth decay is one of the most common — and preventable — health problems in young children. Habits formed early tend to last, so oral health sits naturally within our EYFS curriculum and wider work on health and wellbeing.
Oral Health in Our Curriculum
We weave oral health through the nursery day in ways that make sense to young children.
- Stories, songs and role play about teeth and visiting the dentist
- Conversations about foods and drinks that keep teeth strong
- Modelling healthy choices at snack time and lunchtime
- Encouraging water and milk, keeping sugary drinks out of the nursery day
Working With Families
We share simple, practical advice with families, encourage brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, and signpost parents to local NHS dental services. Every child in the UK is entitled to free NHS dental care — we encourage registering as early as possible.
